VITAMIN E CAN REDUCE THE RISK OF PROSTATE CANCER

The analysis of a large study in Finland shows that long-term use of low-dose VITAMIN E PREPARATIONS It could prevent prostate cancer and reduce mortality from this type of cancer, the most common type of cancer in men after lung cancer. In the so-called ATBC study, almost 30,000 men aged 50 to 69 were randomly selected to be given D-alpha-tocopherol (natural vitamin E in a dose of 50 mg daily) or a placebo. Among the subjects who took vitamin E daily for 5 to 8 years, 32% fewer cases of prostate cancer were diagnosed, and the mortality rate fell by 41%, compared to the group who did not receive vitamin E. In the men who took vitamin E preparations, a reduction in clinically detectable prostate cancer was demonstrated just two years after starting supplementation.

Vegetable oils and nuts contain a lot of vitamin E

From the study data, it can also be assumed that vitamin E can not only prevent the development of prostate cancer in principle, but also reduce the lethality of this type of cancer. This is indicated by the figures showing that fewer advanced cancers were diagnosed in men who took vitamin E compared to those who did not receive vitamin E. On the other hand, early-stage cancer was diagnosed just as often in those who took vitamin E supplements as in the placebo group.

Studies and autopsies have shown that many older men have microscopically small cancerous growths in their prostate, but only a few of these develop into a life-threatening disease during their lifetime. Typically, prostate cancer initially develops as an unnoticed form of cancer that is not clinically recognizable. In some men, this inconspicuous cancer, which subjectively does not affect health, then develops into an aggressive, often fatal form.

D-ALPHA-TOCOPHEROL IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE FORM OF NATURAL VITAMIN E AND SHOULD ALWAYS BE PREFERRED TO ARTIFICIAL VITAMIN E WHEN SUPPLEMENTING. GOOD NATURAL SOURCES ARE VEGETABLE OILS, NUTS, GRAINS AND VARIOUS TYPES OF VEGETABLES.
